More Amour: French Lace has a Special Place in Lovellfaye Bridal Fashion

France is home to the “City of Love,” and French is one of the most popular romance languages. Many view France as one of the most romantic countries to visit in the world, from its delectable wine and cuisine to its luxurious perfume, art and fashion. It comes as no surprise that the French have had an influence on bridal couture globally for centuries with the creation of authentic French lace.

Authentic French lace stands the test of time

Alençon lace was first created in France in the 16th century. Sometimes known as the “queen of lace,” Alençon is an intricate needle lace that’s a modified version of the earlier Venetian technique. Lace was highly regarded in France as a symbol of status in the 17th century, often worn by French aristocrats. This is around the time that Chantilly lace, a handmade bobbin lace, began its rise in popularity. Both beautiful, delicate laces remain sought after today and are often used as trims or edgings for gorgeous finishes on wedding gowns or veils.

French lace in today’s wedding wardrobe

Last year, Designer Lovell of Lovellfaye was on the hunt for the perfect French lace to create her cousin’s dream custom wedding dress. She learned a lot about different types of lace during the process and decided on Alençon for the full gown. She cut out 300 appliqués of the same Alençon lace to bring the dress to life.

Lovellfaye redesigns heirloom wedding gowns for the modern-day bride. She’s noticed some of the vintage wedding dresses feature authentic French lace, giving her the opportunity to repurpose the stunning, timeless lace for brides seeking to honor the women in their lives through their wedding outfits or accessories. It wasn't until she was reconstructing a gown and compared it to my cousin’s lace that she realized she was working with the exact same Alençon lace pattern.

Lovellfaye has worked with numerous fabrics and patterns and expertly applies them to fit today’s bridal trends. Whether it’s French lace or a simple crepe, Lovell can transform any heirloom gown into the perfect, one-of-a-kind dress for modern brides during their special season.

Lovellfaye focuses on bringing brides’ visions to life by reconstructing their mother’s wedding dress or adding a custom, personalized touch to their gowns.
